RSP Systems is pleased to announce its participation on NYPA thermal energy storage demonstration project
The New York Power Authority (NYPA) is partnering with Brenmiller (and RSP Systems) on demonstration project at SUNY-Purchase College in Harrison NY. The project is integrating the Brenmiller Thermal Energy Storage (TES) system with Capstone microturbine’s combined heat and power (CHP) system. The scope of the demonstration includes increasing overall energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The system is expected to be operational later in the summer of 2021.
“The ability to efficiently store thermal energy is an essential function for versatile microgrid development” said Cory Glick, the President of RSP Systems. He adds “As NYS and the country continue to work toward decarbonization, we see thermal storage playing an important and expanding role”. RSP Systems is the exclusive distributor for Capstone Green Energy for NY, CT and OH. Capstone has over 10,000 microturbines installed worldwide with over 125,000,000 accumulated operating hours.
Brenmiller, has patented a high-temperature crushed-rock TES system, which is being tested in three generations of demonstration units at separate sites globally. As with other energy storage technologies, the system stores excess energy, in this case thermal energy, so it can be used later during peak demand periods.
